When we think of fat, we think of all things delicious that we should avoid when trying to lose weight or just live a healthy lifestyle in general. However, whilst there are bad fats that have a detrimental affect on your health there are also good fats which can benefit your diet and health whilst protecting vital organs including the brain and heart.
Healthy fats including omega-3s are not only important to your physical but also your emotional health and therefore should be included in your diet.

- Avocado – Avocado’s are a monounsaturated fat and not only are they delicious, they can be beneficial to your health and appearance. The fats found in avocados help your skin to remain moisturised giving a soft and healthy glow whilst reducing redness and irritation. Avocado is also thought to reduce the risk of various life-threatening illnesses including cancers, heart disease and high blood pressure.
- Salmon – Salmon is packed with nutrients which can positively benefit you. It is full of Omega-3 which helps improve memory. Also, on the build up to your wedding it is likely you will feel a little stressed – therefore it is a great idea to include salmon in your diet. This is due to the hormone tryptophan which is present in salmon and acting as a natural sedative it should enable you to sleep better and de-stress.
- Kale – Recently, kale has appeared on the radar and it is packed with vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants which can greatly benefit you. Although it is low in fat, the fat is does contain is mainly omega-3 fatty acid. Kale is low in calories but will still leave you feeling full making it a weight-loss friendly food. Therefore, if you are trying to lose weight for your big day or in general then you should consider introducing kale into your diet.
Healthy Fats and Your Skin
Some of you may struggle with your skin. You may suffer from excessive oil or it may be that your skin is irritated and red. Having a good intake of fatty acids keeps cell membranes healthy and therefore aids skin health. By consuming foods which are high in omega- 3 you can potentially get younger and smoother looking skin which is what we all want right? Healthy fats can also help control skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis and rosacea which in turn will boost your confidence.
